<\/a><\/p>\nYou could understand why Nikki Webster\u2019s classmates could be green with envy. Licking envelopes in an office for work experience doesn\u2019t compare to touring Europe and singing in front of hordes of screaming fans. But that\u2019s how Nikki, 15, spent her recent school holidays and work experience.<\/p>\n
\u2018I went to Sweden, Holland, Denmark, Belgium and Finland,\u2019 she says. \u2018\u2019It was great fun. In Holland I did two shows \u2013 with 10,000 people each!\u2019<\/p>\n
The teen who literally swung onto the world stage at the Sydney Olympics has grown up a great deal, and she says travelling has opened her eyes. Nikki toured for seven weeks with her dancers \u2013 her mum and dad took turns chaperoning \u2013 to promote her single Strawberry Kisses<\/i>. She says it was odd \u2018getting into that pink suit again\u2019 but luckily, it still fits the growing girl.<\/p>\n
‘Performing in front of all those kids who can\u2019t speak your language but love your music \u2013 it was a great reward,\u2019 Nikki says. In London, Nikki caught up with her friend and mentor Kylie Minogue.<\/p>\n

\u2018She has given me great advice \u2013 mainly to be myself and take each day as it comes.\u2019 It seems Kylie has a great sense of humour, too. During the Olympics, Kylie was having dinner with Nikki\u2019s family at a Sydney restaurant when some Americans sent a bottle of wine to their table. Kylie went over with Nikki to thank them. <\/p>\n
\u2018There I was, standing with someone so big \u2013 my idol \u2013 who has hit number one everywhere. They told me I was great and I said \u201cthank you.\u201d Then I stepped back to let Kylie speak and they said: \u201cOh, who are you?\u201d\u2019 Nikki giggles. \u2018Kylie just laughed. That was before she had her big success in the US.\u2019<\/p>\n
Like Nikki, the music on her new album has grown up quite a bit. \u2018The first single Something More Beautiful<\/i> is not really a pop song and it\u2019s not really a ballad. It\u2019s in between. It\u2019s definitely a lot older than Strawberry Kisses<\/i>,\u2019 she says.<\/p>\n
\u2018It\u2019s about a boy and it\u2019s about wanting something more beautiful. I think everybody wants something more out of what they already have. I don\u2019t have a boyfriend yet \u2013 so I’m sort of singing about I don\u2019t know what!\u2019<\/p>\n
The video clip is set underwater and was shot on a green screen to allow for the digital wizardry to be added during post production. \u2018It was fun to make,\u2019 she says. \u2018I had quite a bit of input into the idea. I designed all the clothes again. They [record executives] don\u2019t have the point of view of a 15-year-old so for me to put that in is just great for my fans.\u2019<\/p>\n
Apart from her new album, Nikki has moved to Melbourne for her role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and she\u2019s completing Year 10. Despite having first-hand knowledge of the music industry, Nikki believes learning maths and English is just as important. \u2018I want to continue my schooling through Years 11, 12 and university,\u2019 she says.<\/p>\n
Success hasn\u2019t changed the girl who performed in front of 3.7 billion people. \u2018It might have changed my life \u2013 travelling overseas and things like that \u2013 but not me as a person. I\u2019m still pretty normal. It\u2019s good to have the support of my friends and family.\u2019<\/p>\n
So what does the future hold?<\/p>\n
\u2018I\u2019m sure when I\u2019m older I\u2019ll look back on the Strawberry Kisses<\/i> video and say: \u201cOh my God! Is that what I looked like?\u201d I was watching old videos of Kylie \u2013 when she was doing Locomotion<\/i> \u2013 and I thought: \u201cWhat does she think when she looks back at those videos?\u201d\u2019 Nikki laughs.<\/p>\n
\u2018Hopefully I\u2019ll be around that long so I can look back on my old videos and say: \u201cI can\u2019t believe I wore that!\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n
