We all thought Nikki Webster was such a brilliant dancer on Channel Seven’s Dancing With the Stars! So, Simone and Amanda decided to enlist Nikki’s help for a few dance tips, and while we were at it, we caught up with one of our favourite Aussie divas…
What’s been the best part about competing in Dancing With the Stars?
Being able to learn new dance styles and to wear some amazing costumes… Not to mention the cast! We have all become close during the making of the show.
Who was your toughest competition?
I don’t think that I had one particular competitor on the show. They were all pretty amazing! But if I had to narrow it down, I would say Jason Smith and Tom Williams. They are spunky boys and I know the girls are voting for them.
You’ve had the opportunity to learn many new forms of dance, which has been your favourite and why?
Definitely the Jive, because of the whole story line behind our routine. I played a doll that came to life. I also liked some of the Latin dances but my feet didn’t.
Was it fun getting dressed up for the performances?
Yeah it was great! Each week we get to pick what we want to wear on the show the following week. The producers on the show allow us to have fun with our outfits… Some of the dresses are pretty funky while others are like Cinderella’s. These ones make you feel like you are at the ball.
What is the secret to being a good dancer?
Work hard and have trust in your teacher.
What is the hardest part about learning new dances every week?
Remembering the steps and ensuring that you don’t fall over during the performance.
Do you like to make up your own dances when you’re at home?
Not really, but I do love dancing around the house.
What’s your favourite song to dance to?
I don’t have one at the moment because there are so many great songs out there at the moment. I like music by Beyonce, Pink, Britney. There are so many!
When you were younger, did you ever make up dances with your friends?
While I was growing up, I used to put on shows for my family. I even made my own costumes.
How can young girls who want to learn to dance get involved in dancing?
Ask your parents to enroll you in dance lessons at your local dance school. I would suggest you take up as many styles as possible. It’s hard work but you can also have so much fun with it.
